This crumble mix has the ideal balance of porridge oats and butter, giving it a perfect rich texture. This recipe will give you enough for about 4 crumbles of approx. 4 portions each. Use what you need and freeze the rest.


Crumble Mix Recipe

Ingredients

  • 335 g plain flour
  • 335 g porridge oats
  • 300 g soft brown sugar
  • 300 salted butter, chilled

Method

  1. Cut the chilled butter into small cubes about 1 cm in size, then add to a large mixing bowl. Add the soft brown sugar, plain flour and porridge oats to the bowl. Using your fingers, gradually rub the butter into the mixture until you have a kind of breadcrumb texture. It doesn't need to be a completely uniform consistency, in fact it's quite nice if you have some rustic chunks of butter in there. You can use the crumble mix immediately or place in the fridge or freezer for later use. It will keep in the freezer quite happily for up to a year.
